Meet Cathy Swartwood Mitchell
Director, Bully Police Oklahoma
Speaker and Consultant
Cathy found her place in the anti bullying movement through telling Brandon’s Story and bringing awareness.  When Senator Rozell introduced the anti bullying bill to the Oklahoma Senate, Cathy introduced the Senate to the reality of bullying through Brandon‘s Story. The message was clear. On April 22, 2002, less than 1 ½  years after Brandon died, Oklahoma lawmakers passed the School Bullying Prevention Act.

When Cathy spoke out on the Dr. Phil show about Brandon’s bullying, the emails and phone calls to the show caused a wave of support for anti bullying programs and policies around the nation.  Her son's story can be found at http://www.jaredstory.com/brandon.html.

Cathy would welcome speaking engagements and workshop presentations.

Like Thieves In The Night
Brandon’s Story - “Bullies Who Kill”
Brandon Chris Swartwood - 2/21/82 – 12/16/00

“While you are going through the system to fight for your child's rights,
your child is the one going into the battlefield
…and today could be the day that he or she is fatally wounded.”
Brandon's mom, Cathy Swartwood Mitchell

One night, as Brandon stood by me, he said, “I feel dead inside." On a cold December morning, only three weeks later, I was standing by Brandon’s dead body, knowing, that despite all my efforts to save my beloved son, the bullies' job had been done too well.

The Aftermath
...For several years, I tried to work. I had no focus, no energy and enough anger to do a mass killing of those responsible. Thank God, I had enough maturity, morals and maintained enough sanity, barely, to refrain from seeking revenge.  I say “barely” on the sanity thing because I was crazy with grief and anger.

...So there I sat, for the first time in my life, in jail. I had a prescription bottle of pills in my jean jacket. I was an emotional wreck. I emptied the entire bottle into my hand as I contemplated my situation.
